What is SAFE KIDS Sonoma County?

Kid Safe Sonoma County Safe Kids Sonoma County is a coalition that is encouraging local organizations to host Bike Rodeos in neighborhoods around the county. The organization is providing materials and guidance to make these events a success in an effort to reduce injuries resulting from children on bicycles.

What is a Bike Rodeo?

A bike rodeo is a safety event designed to engage and entertain children while demonstrating bike safety inspections and showing certain key safety skills. It usually includes:

  • a safety skills course marked with chalk or traffic cones
  • a spectator area
  • Helmet-fitting lessons
  • Videos or lectures on safe biking behavior
  • games
  • raffles
  • and many other activities.

Use The Free Bike Rodeo Kit

The bicycle safety action team, a subcommittee of SAFE KIDS of Sonoma, has put together a “Bike Safety Rodeo Kit” with information and materials for conducting a successful bike rodeo, including:

  • mini traffic signs
  • cones
  • photo-laminators to making “safe bicycle license” ID cards
  • a manual for conducting your rodeo
  • masters for promotional flyers and posters
  • and other items.

Any child serving organization can apply to borrow the kit by
 downloading the application (
pdf format).

Raffle a Brand New Bike!
A raffle or drawing for a brand new bike can provide extra motivation for the children and families to participate in your rodeo.
